Step 3 - Measuring performance

Now you've sent a campaign, it's time to look at how you did.

There's lots of ways to measure this but let's just look at the key metrics to start.

Firstly, click on Reports in the right-hand nav. Then look for your campaign and click on it.

Here you can see all the important measures of your campaign.

The important ones to look at are:

  • Bounce rate

This is a good indication of the quality of your list. This demo campaign is showing that 6.33% of the emails sent did not reach it's intended recipient.

You should aim to have a bounce rate of under 3% if possible.

  • Open rate

The open rate gives you a measure of how many people opened your email divided by the volume of emails that were sent.

Over 30% is considered a good result.

  • Click rate

This is the number of clicks that occur in a sent campaign divided by the number of people sent to on that list.

 Aim for over 3%.

  • Unsubscribe rate

This is a measure of how many people clicked the unsubscribe link and subsequently unsubscribed from your campaign divided by the number of people sent to on that list.

It's best to keep that under 3%.

  • Engage rate

Open rates are now always 100% accurate so at BetterMail we also look at the engage rate. This is a count of all the individual interactions with the email divided by the number of people sent to on that list.

Over 30% is considered a good result.
